Lower Phalen Creek Project
Advocating at the Minnesota Capitol
Corvus North helped Lower Phalen Creek Project organize its first virtual and second successful advocacy event at the Minnesota Capitol in April 2020. Advocates told their legislators about the importance of Wakan Tipi Center, a Dakota cultural and environmental interpretive center planned for Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The Center will honor a sacred Dakota space along the Mississippi River and serve as a national resource. Thanks to the advocates' work, the Minnesota Legislature and Governor Tim Walz authorized $1 million in bond funding for this $7.7 million building campaign on top of $3 million awarded in 2018 for this important project.
